Changes…

It’s up to me isn’t it?  This life and the way I live it.  It’s entirely up to me what I do with it.  If I don’t like something I can try to change it…or not.  There is no in between.  I’m either moving in the directions of my dreams or I’m staying put.

Changes

I like to keep busy and moving but sometimes I don’t get anywhere but here.  I just realized that some of the things I do actually keep me where I am…even though I convince myself that I’m “doing something about it.”

It might be time to get off that treadmill and do things that bring about the change I want…or not do anything at all.  If I do nothing new or the same thing in a different way I can keep my life pretty close to what it is now.  (I say pretty close because change happens everyday all the time.  It doesn’t matter that we don’t see it…it’s happening.)

If I do “something” I better make damn sure it’s in the direction of the change that I want.  There are no guarantee’s of course…but at least I won’t look back and wonder what the hell I did with my life.  (In which case I will “die trying.”)

Getting out of our comfort zone, well let’s just say, not an easy task. That was an excellant lateral you made in reference to a tread mill. My mind drew such a great visual – you’re doing all the right stuff, just not going anywhere. We’re creatures of habit. PERIOD.

I’m very guilty of not moving toward that direction of change. My goal for 2010 was, one foot in front of the other and go for that change that I have wanted for a very long time. But, I have zillion reasons………….

Good luck with your change and your pursuit of whatever it is you are pursuing. GO FOR IT!

Life’s short, kids grow up quickly, jobs change, etc. – we must always move forward at whatever the cost it may be.

    As always, great article.

And it’s always great to hear from you, Floy-Dean. Sometimes I wonder if it’s true that we are “doing all the right stuff.” I think a more accurate assessment…at least as far as I’m concerned…is I’m just “doing stuff” because we’re supposed to. I think the key word is “right” as far as we define it.

Thanks again for the comment and the compliment…

I quoted you this morning, A. Thanks! That was a very good thing to say.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Albert Einstein….

People tend to keep banging their head against the same wall then speak about their situation with the same amount of frustration and sadness. This can be a job, a lifestyle, a relationship. I really began to ask myself “If I could do anything, go anywhere, find the mate of my dreams, what would that be like? and how can I begin?” Change is challenging. It helped me to go after one small dream to start. Then I went after the next one, and the next. Still working on the changes I need to make, no perfection here ;) Thanks Andy, for your insight AND honesty.

Maybe that’s part of the key to success and happiness, Meg. Small dreams. Seems like we’re always looking for the big ones. I like that. Thank YOU for visiting…

I am struck Andy by your sense of being a little stuck, a feeling shared by so many of us. Floy-Dean above is right when saying it is about moving out of our comfort zone – not an easy thing to do. Wish had something more to contribute, but I do share and understand your feeling of wanting to move forward. However knowing the little of you that I do, I know that you will make it happen and I am looking forward to seeing what will happen next in your life!

Nice thoughts Andy! I sometimes have to be reminded that the challenge of life is to live it fully and not try to control it.

So TRUE. I need to be reminded of this sometimes. The changes I want are so possible, I need to get off the treadmill too.

(Sidenote – I love Bowie. I met him once, he put his hand on my cheek looked me straight in the eyes and said “Barbara, you’re awesome”.)

“If I don’t like something I can try to change it…or not. There is no in between. I’m either moving in the directions of my dreams or I’m staying put”

    Spot on Andy!

Sometimes I think the word “change” is so ambitious. It’s like we’d go into a tunnel and come out completely different. Now, that just doesnt happen! Our whole existance is based upon chemical patterns from previous experience. Having entirely NEW experiences is actually quite uncommon (but imagine the life we could have if we did more often!) I just read in a Deepak Chopra book that 95% of our thoughts are the same from day to day!! No wonder, we are on a treadmill!!

So we shouldn’t be so hard on ourselves. We are both the robot and the programmers.

You are creating, and you ARE moving in the direction of your dreams, even if you can’t see it yet! I’m rooting for you!! :)

Helen I love it when you comment. I still know how it’s possible that you’re as young as you are. I guess I’ll just have to accept that, huh? ;) 95%? Yikes…that’s kind of sad isn’t it? Seems to be true though…dang it!

And thanks for rooting for me. I have the coolest project in the works and it’s not even by my own hand. I’m not going to say anything until it’s under way because I’d rather talk about what I’ve done that what I’m going to do. Old school..

      You rule, Helen. Thanks!

Young is a relative term. I turn 28 this year, but just like the last 10 years flew by I am sure the next 20 will, even faster! (maybe time accelerates?!) Either way, thanks, I do rule haha!! :) Can’t wait to hear what you’ve done when it’s done. Makes me think of a line from Jack Kerouac’s On the road which I’m reading now:

“Hope you get where you’re going and be happy when you do”

That’s the whole point of TS, Helen. It frickin’ flies…time does. I’m stealing your Jack Kerouac quote ;) You have turned me on to so much since I’ve known you. Love that!
